Fulani Herdsmen Attacks: Aniocha North Legislator Wants Okowa To Act

The Member Representing Aniocha North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on security agencies to beef up security in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Moving the motion that was supported by Honourable Festus Okoh during a legislative session, Honourable Nwaobi said: “Mr. Speaker, the issue of Fulani Herdsmen in Delta State with particular reference to Aniocha North is becoming so pathetic that this house should take a drastic decision.”
The House eventually passed a resolution calling on the Governor to prevail on security agencies to deploy more security.
For several months, residents of Onicha-Ugbo, Idumuje Ugboko, Obior and many other towns in Aniocha North Local Government Area have been living in fear due to harassment and killings by Fulani Herdsmen. Many residents no longer go to farm. This has created a danger of lower yields in crops production for 2020, which is the mainstay of the communities.
Cases of kidnap by Fulani Herdsmen and payment of ransom before victims’ release, have been recorded in recent weeks.
Chapter 2, Section 14b of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution reads: “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”
