How Taxes Overburden Airlines In West Africa, By IATA

The Special Envoy to Africa on Aero-Political Affairs from International Air Transport Association (IATA), Raphael Kuuchi has said that governments and service providers in West Africa are heaping heavy tax burden on airlines in the sub-region.

According to him, $80 from each ticket is paid to the government of Niger in fees, taxes and charges. “Cameroun recently added $37 development tax per passenger and DR Congo charges every arriving passenger $15 to promote tourism,” he explained.

He urged governments and stakeholders to work together to enable aviation grow and drive prosperity in Africa.
