The Federal Government of Nigeria is currently carrying out a major performance audit of operational activities of policies and institutions that affects the everyday life of Nigerians with a view to improving on them and will soon publish the audit report.
Leadership reports that the Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF), Mr. Anthony Mkpe Ayine, said this recently when hosting the body of permanent secretaries on a peer review visit to the office of the auditor general in Abuja.
Making a presentation of the activities of the organization, the AuFG said he and his team had initiated a number of audits aimed at enhancing the performance of government agencies as well as policies.
He stated that the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (OAuFG) would soon publish reports after conducting currently on-going performance audits, covering four major IT audit areas of Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information Systems (IPPIS); Government Integrated Financial Management and Information Systems (GIFMIS); the Nigerian Immigration Service e-passport system; and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) – Drivers License Scheme (NDLS) and the National Vehicle Identification System (NVIS).
Other areas being audited on performance are the Treasury Single Account (TSA); the management of Internally Displaced Persons – IDPs – by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); and the effectiveness of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
Ayine explained that the IT audit are systems that have generated lots of attention from Nigerians over the past few years.
Responding, head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, who commended the audits for the initiatives charged them to extend their audit activities to donor funds that comes into the country and how they were utilized.
Speaking on the rationale behind the meeting she said the peer review visit offers the head of service and permanent secretaries the platform to interact and understand operations of their peers.
