Nigeria’s Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has highlighted the various achievements of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) under his watch, with Engr. Saleh Dunoma as Chief Executive Officer of the organization.
Speaking at the 5th Aviation Stakeholders’ Forum held in Abuja last week, Sirika said the first airport certifications ever done in Nigeria has been achieved. They are the certification of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos in April, 2017 and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, (NAIA) Abuja in November, 2017.
He said the certification of Kano and Port Harcourt airports were in advanced stages. There has been a ccommissioning of the new International Terminal Building in Port Harcourt while the ones at Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Enugu are at advanced stages of completion.
Other achievements according to him, are “reconstructed Abuja runway and undertook isolated repair of the taxiway and apron, including complete remarking of the entire pavement and associated airfield lighting system; Linking new Abuja International Terminal to a rail station; Streamlined various security screening points at the International Airports in line with Executive Order on Ease of Doing Business; Installation of solar airfield lighting at 10 airports – Akure, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Yola, Kaduna, Minna, Enugu, Maiduguri, Jos and Ibadan.
FAAN has also completed a 1300-capacity multi-storey car park at the International Terminal in Lagos through PPP and completed the construction of Wing D Terminal at NAIA Abuja, within the last three years.
