A Professor of Biological Science with the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM), Frank Onyezili, has committed suicide after being abandoned by his family.
Sources close to the deceased family who confided in The Guardian on the grounds of anonymity said a suicide note was discovered in the house of the victim. The sources said the deceased who is in his late 60s had been living a lonely life without any of his immediate family members in his abode.
Police spokesman, DSP Moses Yamu, told The Guardian that he was yet to get the details of the incident from the divisional office.
Director of Protocol and Information of the University of Agriculture, Chief (Mrs.) Waku Roseline, confirmed the incident to journalists on phone. Waku said Prof. Onyezili committed suicide on Friday last week at FUAM.
She added that the late professor left a suicide note behind but could not have access to the note. By the time The Guardian visited the deceased residence on campus, sympathizers, mostly academicians were seen signing the condolence register. Some them described the late university don as a perfect gentleman and wondered why he killed himself.
