NUC Speaks On Illegal Post-Graduate Courses

The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) says only 18 universities out of the 74 private universities have NUC’s approval for post-graduate studies.

The commission in a bulletin issued by the Office of its Executive Secretary on May 14, 2018, frowned at some universities running unapproved post-graduate programmes, leading to the award of Masters and PHD Degrees and released a list of federal, state and private universities allowed to run and issue post-graduate certificate to students in Nigeria.

According to the list, of the 162 universities in the country consisting of 41 federal, 47 state-owned and 74 privately owned universities, only 26 federal universities were approved by the commission to run post-graduate programmes.

“The commission hereby notifies the general public that only the universities on the list have approval to offer post-graduate programmes at the Masters’ and PHD levels in Nigeria as of July 30, 2012” states the bulletin.
